Capital Improvement Plan Public Meetings - Project Lists and Maps

The City of Houston conducts public meetings on the City's Annual Capital Improvement Plan in each council district to obtain citizen input before preparation of the capital Improvement Plan. These meetings provide citizens the opportunity to participate in the Capital Improvement Plan process by contributing comments and suggestions about needed services and improvements.

Construction Branch Inspector Opportunities

constructionThe Construction Branch of the Engineering and Construction Division within the City of Houston Public Works and Engineering (PWE) Department is responsible for providing inspection services for infrastructure projects as part of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), and is continually looking to fill inspector positions with qualified and experienced individuals. Easement Reverter Procedure

This application is for use whenever it is determined that a recorded instrument contains verbiage which allows a public easement (storm sewer, water, water meter, or sanitary sewer) to revert to the previous owner or terminate, if the easement is no longer being used for the original purpose for which it was conveyed to the City.

Engineering Standards Section

The Engineering Standards Section (SRC), in the Department of Public Works and Engineering (PWE) has been established to review, revise, and update PWE's Standards and Documents. Public input and participation is requested by the submittal of proposals for suggested changes, comments, recommendations and other information. The process will accomplish review of all documents within a five year cycle.

Joint Referral Committee

Developing and selling property for residential or commercial building projects often requires the relocation of City facilities, including street right-of-way and underground utilities, or approval of encroachments into streets or alleys. In the City of Houston, such requests are processed by the Joint Referral Committee (JRC), which consists of representatives of the following departments:

Safe Sidewalk Program

Safe Sidewalk Program

Sidewalks and ramps within the public right-of-way help ensure the safety and welfare of the citizens of Houston. The Department of Public Works and Engineering (PWE) constructs sidewalks as an independent public improvement through the Safe Sidewalk Program.

This three part program provides sidewalks and ramps along streets leading up to schools, along major thoroughfares and where needed to improve mobility and access for citizens with disabilities.
