Director's Office

Houston Public Works  is responsible for overseeing the Department’s services to Houston citizens through the planning, operation, maintenance, construction management and technical engineering of the City's public infrastructure. The Department’s responsibilities include operation and maintenance of the City’s streets and drainage, production and distribution of water, collection and treatment of wastewater, and permitting and regulation of public and private construction. The Department is staffed with a trained work force of approximately 3,900 employees and operates with an annual budget of approximately $1.8 billion.


Chief Administrative Office

The Chief Administrative Office assists the director in the daily operations of the Department and provides oversight of Procurement, Public Works IT, the Small Business Development Group, and liaisons for Human Resources, Facilities, Fleet, Safety and Security.

Chief Operating Officer

The Chief Operating Officer oversees Capital Projects, Transportation and Drainage Operations and Houston Water.


The Communications Office includes the Council Liaison Office, the Public Information Office and handles all internal and external communication for the Department.

Financial Management Services

Under the direction of Deputy Director Samir Solanki, the Finance Management Services is responsible for managing, monitoring and control of the Department's finances.
