If you disagree with your meter reading and want UCS to perform a verification of the accuracy of your water meter, you may do so by calling our Customer Service Center at 713.371.1400. There is a $10.00 charge if the reading is found to be correct. Exemptions to this fee may apply for certain customers.  Additionally, if you are calling to notify UCS of an under billing, and are charged a fee, we will remove it.

If a meter test is requested by the customer, and the meter is still under warranty or is found to be accurate, the customer will be charged for the test.  Water meter bench tests require that the meter be removed and taken back to our meter shop for testing.  Charges for the bench test include the cost of a replacement meter.  Meters of larger than 2 inches in line diameter are only tested on site.

  • Field Accuracy Test (less than 3” conducted on site) a fee of $25.00;
  • Meter Bench Test (less than 3” off-site) a fee of $50.00 plus cost of meter ;
  • Large Meter Test (3” and larger) a fee of $170.00 + cost of meter parts.

If the meter is determined to be inaccurate as defined by American Water Works Association (AWWA) guidelines, the customer will not be charged for the test.  Transmitter faults are not considered inaccuracies.
