2009 Sewer and Water Rates

This rate adjustment reflects increases in cost of maintenance of water and sewer facilities as well as escalations in energy, fuel, chemical, and capital projects costs, and related financial costs. Revenue from this rate adjustment will also continue to fund all costs to provide quality drinking water, wastewater disposal and storm water drainage services. All expenses incurred in providing water and sewer services are supported exclusively by revenues generated from water and sewer rates.
For some customer classifications, the minimum charge is affected by the meter size. For all classes that include sewer, the consumption used to determine the appropriate sewer charge is the same as that for water.

Customers may choose to close these accounts in winter, subject to the usual $5.00 fee for re-opening them. This will avoid minimum charges if there is no consumption. Customers will remain responsible for all charges in any month water passes through the meter, even if the account is closed.
Other Classes:
Sewer Only Customer (Metered Water) - TU 61
These customers take their water from Non-City of Houston wells. Rates are set according to the property use, i.e., residential, multi-family, or commercial usage.
Effluent Accounts - TU 62

Industrial is only a sewer class/rate, but may be considered a sub-type of Commercial. There is no such thing as an “industrial or remedial water rate.” Non-remediation accounts (TU 21-39) usually serve a commercial facility, so water rates shown above are a combination of standard commercial and light commercial rates. Remediation accounts (TU 63) are temporary sewer accounts set up during environmental clean-up operations. These never have water charges.
