Frequently Asked Questions

18. What can I do to find leaks around the house?

Check for moisture under cabinets and behind toilets. Standing water under the house (if on piers), and in the yard, or plants that are near water lines and much greener than others are also signs of leaks. Check your meter periodically to see if the reading has changed. Drain the water from your toilet tank and feel the flapper for signs of pitting or wear. The flapper should be smooth, not rough. Allow the tank to refill, then place blue or green food coloring or drink mix in the tank. Allow it to stand for 15-30 minutes. Do this test at least twice. If color appears in the bowl without flushing, the flapper is leaking and should be replaced.
