Closing an account

Please call at least one but not more than fourteen business days prior to the date services are to be closed. Failure to do so automatically authorizes the City to take a reading at some later time and prorate the water usage to determine billing. Please do not leave the services on "for the next customer." The City of Houston will take care of this. Sometimes, the new customers fail to call for service and this can result in you being charged for water you did not use.

If there is a deposit on the account, this will be applied to the final billing. Any remaining credit will be automatically refunded to the final mailing address on file. Be sure to inform us of your new address to ensure that you receive your final bill and/or refund.
