The City of Houston charges the following fees for service. These fees are determined by the cost of providing the service, state law, or established as a deterrent to delinquency:

Service Fees:

• Opening an account:                   $ 5.00
• Recheck Read                            $10.00 unless an error is found.
• Itemized statement                     $10.00 / year
• Printouts:                                  $ 0.10 / page
• Transient Meter Rentals               $15-25 / month

Delinquency Fees:

• Returned check                          $24.00
• Service restoration (after cut)      $30.00
• Illegal service restoration             $55.00 + additional penalties
• Tampering                                 Cost of repair/replacement
• Late payment                            10% of the bill

Meter Test Fees:

• Field Accuracy Test (less than 3” conducted on site) - a fee of $25.00;
• Meter Bench Test (less than 3” off-site) a fee of $50.00 plus cost of meter;
• Large Meter Test (3” and larger) - a fee of $170.00 + cost of meter parts.

If the meter is determined to be inaccurate, defined as outside of AWWA guidelines, the customer will not be charged.

Faulty radio transmitter reads are not considered inaccuracies.

Exemptions:

Certain customers may be exempted from Late Payment and Recheck Read fees by filing an application with UCS.   These customers are:

• Senior citizens, age 60+
• Veterans with service related disabilities,
• Disabled persons who meet low income guidelines

Proof of age, disability or income will be required.
