This page provides general code updates including new forms, publications, amendments, and other Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical and Energy Code related information.
Important Information: The City of Houston is currently reviewing the entire series of 2006 construction codes for local amendments. These include the 2006 IBC, 2006 UMC, 2006 UPC, 2006 IFC and 2006 IRC. We expect to complete the code review by the end of this year and submit the 2006 code package to City Council. Typically, the codes take effect within 60 days after they are adopted.

Recent Codes Changes
Appendix M to the 2000 IRC Amendments - Additional appendix effective Feb 1, 2009 applicable to structures regulated by the Residential Code. Contains sound attenuation provisions when required by the airport land use ordinance.

Energy Code
Important Information:The adoption of amendments to the residential portion of the 2006 IECC was approved by City Council on November 19, 2008. The code will take effect on January 1, 2009. Please click below to view the new amendments:
