The MKT/SP Trail is a Rails-to-Trials conversion project which consists of 4.62 miles of a 10-foot wide, concrete, multi-use hike and bike trail along the old Missouri, Kansas, Texas Southern Pacific railroad. The trail runs from 26th Street to 7th Street, and from Shepherd along 7th Street, to Spring Street and White Oak Bayou under I-45, where it connects to the Heritage Corridor West Trail providing a connection to the University of Houston and other downtown bikeways and destinations.

The trail travels through The historic Heights, connects to Lawrence Park, Stude Park and the downtown bikeways which tie in to Buffalo Bayou, Minute Maid Park downtown and the historic East End. Other bikeway connections to the north are the CBD North on-street bike route on 20th Street and the bike lanes on Heights Blvd.

The trail includes landscaping with native trees and standard street lighting along the trail.

Places to visit include the Art Car Museum, White Oak Bayou, the historic Heights, the Heights Library, and many art galleries in the area. As well as other downtown locations. The trail is located in Key Map grids 452V, Z; 492 C, D; 493 A, E, F, & G.
