Bike Smart Handbook

Bike Smart ArtOver 300,000 Houstonians and three school districts (10,000 participating students) received the Bike Smart handbook. The handbook was produced with federal and local funds. Through a partnership with the Houston Chronicle, the available funds were leveraged to produce an education campaign that tied the concepts taught by the handbook with curriculum material for students in the Houston, Spring Branch and Alief Independent School Districts. Posters were produced to reinforce the Bike Smart tips and to prepare students for a year-end contest wrapping up the 2004-2005 scholastic school year. Two contest winners received a bicycle and helmet from Bike Barn. An additional 10,000 handbooks were distributed at various events as well. The BikeSmart handbook is available electronically in English, Spanish and in its combined original format-- Click the BikeSmart Handbook link. If you are interested in sponsoring a reprinting of the handbook, please contact us.

The map is also available electronically--Click the Houston Bikeway Network Map link.

Bike Racks

Bike Rack PartnersUnder the Bike Parking Program, the City of Houston has added new parking for over 1,500 bicycles across the city. The new bike racks are available for public use. They were acquired through a federal grant with a local match. Through the efforts of many partners, the bike racks were picked up and installed for use by their employees and the public.
